If you have an emergency, if you suffer a hand, finger or upper extremity injury including shoulder or elbow injuries, whether it is soft tissue or a broken bone, call The Hand Center immediately at 281-440-HAND (in Houston) or 480-585-HAND (in Phoenix) – 24 hours a day. If the emergency occurs “after hours” or on the weekend, we suggest you still contact us first and we will give you precise directions.
Tell our receptionist that you have a hand or upper extremity injury and she will promptly direct you to one of our offices. The quality of the initial treatment you receive will affect your outcome.
Rather than going to a hospital emergency room, possibly waiting for hours, and being treated by an on-call physician who may or may not have specialized training in hand surgery and microvascular surgery, you will benefit from involving The Hand Center in your care right away. See What is a Hand Surgeon >
The Hand Center is a full-service facility with onsite state-of-the-art operating rooms –not an “in office” surgery room but a fully credentialed, qualified ambulatory surgery center. You will be given absolute priority treatment. One of our hand surgeons will see you within minutes, not hours. If your injury requires immediate surgery, we can treat you at once, right in our facility.
There are no regulations that require hospital emergency rooms to provide an injured person with a fully trained hand surgeon. Although orthopedic, general and plastic surgeons have had some training in hand surgery (and are often the ones called to the emergency room), they do not have the extensive training of a fully qualified hand or microvascular surgeon, which includes full hand fellowship and micro-surgical training.
We treat everyone, from children to seniors. We treat broken bones, soft tissue injuries and amputations – any injury, in fact, to the hand or upper extremity is the specialty of hand surgery.
When you call, be sure to immediately tell our receptionist that you have an emergency and you need to be seen right away.
